About OSUE’s KE Initiative

The Knowledge Economy is all about the continued movement toward the increased importance of the application of knowledge in all sectors of the economy and in society.  Historically, Ohio’s economy has been dominated by its agricultural and manufacturing sectors based upon competitive advantages in location and rich natural resources, coupled with plentiful labor and capital.  While these factors are important, the time has come for us to recognize how vital are new knowledge and innovation if our state is to attain economic sustainability and growth.

During the past decade, a new model for research universities has emerged, requiring innovation and evolving knowledge in order to meet changing needs. This model focuses on the university acting as a partner in building regional economies.
